As outlined by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, you must complete four school years of full-time teaching in a position aligned with your credential within an eight-year period beginning with the school year after you successfully complete the initial year of preparation and obtain a preliminary teaching credential.

Multiple Subject Credential: must teach in an appropriate elementary setting.
Single Subject Credential: must teach in a subject-aligned position (e.g., English, Math).

Any position in a California public school, including public charter schools with a valid CDS code, qualifies.

You must annually report where you are employed and your current contact information until you have completed your service requirement or eight years after completion of residency, whichever occurs first.
